Belly Button Rings Pros and Cons

By

Belly button rings have been in style for a while now. It is not unusual to see people of all ages walking around with their navels pierced and showing off their belly button rings. In some cases they are very sexy. In other cases, they probably are drawing attention where attention does not need to be drawn.

Belly rings are not a new idea by any means - they were used in the Mid East for centuries and were favored by belly dancers; they made their way to the states in the nineteen nineties as a fashion trend and just kind of took hold. They are seemingly still very much in style almost twenty years later. These fashion icons are available in tons of styles, including dangle belly button rings and gold belly button rings.

The Pros

A belly button ring is stylish, that is probably one of the biggest pros there are to having one. Celebrities sport them, and models. They are seen on TV, in the movies and in magazines. Society often imitates the trends that celebrities adopt. This body jewelry is one of those trends.

They can really draw attention to a well toned tummy. They can look very sexy and dress up the mid section nicely. They add a certain sparkle to what was traditionally an area of the body that was not adorned.

A lot of ladies cite that they feel more confident with their belly rings in place.

The Cons

Like everything in life there is a good side and a not so good side. It is the same with belly rings.  The not so good side of using belly rings can be pretty bad. Any time you pierce any part of your body you are risking infection. Infection in this area of the body is pretty high.

It is difficult to keep the piercing clean, so it often times becomes infected.  In addition to cleaning it up there is also the fact that the belly remains covered most of the day which breeds germs.

It can be really painful. Getting your belly button pierced hurts like the dickens. The piercing itself hurts, than each time your pants rub up against it, it also hurts.

You risk pulling the belly button rings out of the navel simply by sitting down and having your pants get caught on the ring.

In some cases having belly button rings should be avoided. In certain situations you really do not need to be drawing attention to your belly.  The belly rings can draw unnecessary attention to a belly that might not be in the best shape.

Diabetics should avoid belly rings at all costs because opening the skin can in a diabetic can cause a slew of complications. It is not worth the risk.

If a time comes that the wearer decides they longer wish to wear their belly rings, they can remove the belly rings but will be left with a scar.

Belly rings are not an idea that should be taken lightly, all the pros and the cons should be weighed to make an informed decision.
